Halloween Trick or Treat Fun with Real Skillz Newly Launched Free Real Estate Marketing Tools Website

A few months ago I launched my Real Skillz Goodies website to capture the web 2.0 tools in one place that real estate agents could use for the real estate marketing.  Today I am relaunching the site with a few tweaks and improvements and hope it will serve as your resource when you are looking for a specific type of tool to help you with your real estate marketing.

All the real estate marketing tools on the website are free or free with a paid version.  I have also broken them up into categories that I think will make more clear marketing sense for real estate professionals along with a resource link for each category tab.

Every time I write a new blog post about real estate marketing, the tools referenced will be included in this site as it will serve as repository and reference for real estate professionals to use.  Access to this website will always be free.

I'll be adding videos, audio, and more on this site to further serve as a resource for your real estate marketing needs.  I hope you come on by and have some Halloween Trick or Treat Fun with Real Skillz Newly Launched Free Real Estate Marketing Tools.

Need to Connect From A Distance? Make A Web 2.0 Story

The Power of the Web

The Internet is an amazing web of interactions and connections.  You might not realize just how amazing it is until you make your first real connection that turns into a great friendship OR you have to communicate with someone who is at a distance and it becomes one of your only methods of communication.

There are many ways to keep in touch with a person who is many miles or even an ocean away.  You can skype, email, and IM, but what if these options are difficult at times because of a less than perfect Internet connection?

Here in the U.S. we have many different options available for high speed Internet access, but we still don't Connecting from a distancebreak the top ten.  We hold the 17th position with an average Internet speed of 3.9 mbps according to the the first quarter 2009 Akamai Technologies' State of the Internet report.  China's speed lags far behind at a snail's pace of 833 kbps and India's speed is 772 kbps.

Imagine communicating with someone in another country whose time outs on the Internet outweighs their time online.  Imagine this person is your best friend, relative or partner?  Instead of wringing your hands in dismay, you can create a web storybook, so when that person can come into range your story is there to share and you haven't missed a beat.

I created a web 2.0 story recently for the purpose of connecting with a friend from a distance and I wanted to share the process,

How to Make a Web 2.0 Story

Step 1.  The Binding- I chose a blog as my platform.  So easy to record journal moments, audio and video on a blog.  Also, the benefit is being able to have the other person comment back on your posts when they can, which makes for great conversation as you know.  Much better than email.

I used the blogger platform because it's free, it's easy to use even for a non-blogging recipient, AND you can create a blog on the blogger platform that is private and NOT indexed by Google.  You choose your readers and they have to log in to access the blog.

Easy to Use Blogging Platform for your web story

Step 2.   The Design.  I wanted a suitable template above and beyond what Blogger offers, so I did an extensive web search and scoured sites for free blogger templates.  I found an awesome site full of beautiful designs as I am not a graphic designer but can appreciate art so I chose a template from Pyzam.com.  Oh free.  Did I say free? Yup, free.

Step 3.  The Content.  It's all about you on this web story.  No writing for the search engines, keyword research, linking strategy...this is writing and journaling in pure form.  Expression.  Tag your posts so they build a nice archive for the reader(s) to refer to.

The really nice thing about blogger is the ability to easily add multimedia to it's platform.  Here a new song or see a new movie you love.  Share a simple clip of it by using YouTube on your blog.  So easy to embed by adding a snippet of html code- COPY....go to your blog- PASTE.

You can also create probably the EASIEST mobile blog ever using the blogger platform.  So pictures of a great sunrise or sunset, the kids, a new restaurant you went to, or a thought you had while taking a walk can easily be transferred in that moment of time to your blog making it easy to share your days with the person you miss.

You take the picture, write some text and send it to go@blogger.com and you're done. A K.I.S.S. friendly solution.

Go Mobile with go@blogger.com

Step 4.  The Great Touches.  Sometimes just hearing someones voice is a comfort and gives the most personal of touches.  This was a bit tricky when I first set it up, because i was looking to find a platform that would allow me to record private messages.  I have used Utterli before and love it's ease of use, but those recordings show up in a public time-line.

For truly easiest to use try Vocaroo.com.  You just click the button to record and providing you have microphone you record, then press stop and this FREE application will give you the html code you need for your blog.

If you are looking for a better voice quality, consider a podcasting platform.  You can upload and have the mp3 hosted with a free account at boxnet.com.  This platform will give you an html code to paste into your blog posts and you are ready for your blog reader to listen.  Soooo simple.

A host your audio recordings

Step 5.  The Joie De Vivre.  Have fun with your storybook.  Journaling is a great release, writing a story can be just as fulfilling and telling your story to a significant is absolutely special.

How can you use it?

  • To share life with a child who has gone to college or a child who lives in another state/country.
  • To share life with a husband, boyfriend, or life partner who is traveling.
  • To share life with a friend who is long distance.

Don't wait until the person is long distance to share something special....you can share a story near or far.

OR

Journal your life to share with yourself, archive your moments, and declutter your mind.

BE A VALUABLE RESOURCE

How can you use this idea in a professional capacity? Hmmm.....how about share it?  Your clients and prospects are people to and would probably appreciate this random act of kindness that has nothing to do with real estate but EVERYTHING to do with living and a lifestyle.

So go ahead and share...tell people how to connect from a distance and make a web 2.0 story.

Test Your Computer Knowledge. Are you Smarter than the Average Sixth Grader?

Got Computer Skills?

My 12 year old daughter took a quiz in her computer class and got an "A".  When I learned about it I askedTime for a computer quiz permission for her to bring it home and share.  Her computer class was pretty interesting to me.  When I took computer class we used floppy disks and took typing tests.  Our first home computer was a HUGE deal and it was Texas Instruments so we could play munch man.

It rocked.

In 2009 my daughter was asked in her computer class to name 10 attributes of Google, how to clear your cache in your browser, and other useful geek speak.  I thought it would be fun to make up a computer quiz so here we go.

The Top 7 Tips to Find Your Mobile Marketing Mojo

The Top 7 Tips to Find Your Mobile Marketing Mojo

Mobile access to information is not just the wave of the future it is the wave that consumers are riding now.  Everyday real estate professionals use mobile applications- email, text messaging, maybe access to your local MLS.

What mobile applications are you using to reach consumers and get your inventory and brand name in front of your market?

Today I wanted to spend some time exploring the mobile market and how real estate professionals can participate more easily in this upward trending opportunity.  Here are the top 7 tips to find your mobile mojo.

1.  Be Informed About Mobile Marketing

Mobile search is increasing at a fast pace. According to a recent study by the Kelsey Group, "... local searches Want to know the power of mobile marketing? Go to the sourcemake up about 28 percent of mobile searches....That figure will grow to about 35 percent by 2013."

Listen to this Podcast from Local Search News in which Steve Espinosa and Mike Boland discuss mobile local search.

2.  Go to the Source of Mobile Marketing Information

The Mobile Marketing Association

Want to keep up on mobile marketing trends, methods and best practices?  The Mobile Marketing Association is an association of members who are "focused on the potential of marketing via mobile devices".  Sign up for the MMA's Mobile Messenger monthly newsletter and peruse their articles and case studies sections.

Mobile Marketer

A great news resource for mobile marketing.  Sign up for the daily newsletter and learn about what corporations across industry lines are doing to brand themselves via mobile marketing.

3.  Make Your Listings Mobile

There are many products available for mobile real estate listing searches.  Many involve consumers entering SMS (short message service) codes from a rider on a house for sale sign.  I have chosen three services which seem to be of equal value to both the consumer and the real estate professional for ease of use and amount of information able to be sent and received.

Mycityphone.com- Application that allows buyers to receive property information and photos via a cell phone.

Kurio by MostHome- Allows home buyers to search real estate listings from their mobile phone by location, street address, agent name, or MLS number.

Mobile Agent by CellSigns- Buyers send the property information to mobile agent and they receive a return message with property details and photos on their mobile device.

Get your real estate listings on a mobile device

4.  Test and Tweak Your Website for Mobile Performance

Use browsercam.com to test your website's performance and see what it looks like on a mobile device.

I was surprised with the number of real estate website providers that there weren't more marketing mobile compatability.  I found three website providers that clearly specialize in providing mobile website solutions,

5. Make Your Blog Mobile

Creating a mobile version of your blog is pretty simple to do.  Once you have done this make sure to advertise it to bring traffic to your mobile blog.

Here are some mobile choices,

6.  Use a Mobile Tool

On Mother's Day my siblings were talking about how they LOVE Google Text, well at least the ones who don't have an IPhone.  Curious I probed a little at dinner and then googled it when I got home.

Google Text is a great FREE application to find local stuff.  You can use Google Text to check local listings, weather, forecast, sports scores, movietimes, stock quotes.  You can even use it for translation.

Here's a great article on Google Text and the Google Mobile Home Page.

While you are at it, check out 1-800-GOOG-411- A free 411 Service. It's Suuhhweet.

7.  Follow Mobile Marketing Visionaries

You can remain a leader and follow great industry visionaries.  The EconSM:  Social Meets Mobile Conference is being held at Mission Bay Conference Center in San Diego CA on May 14th from 10-5:45 p.m.

Can't make it...no worries- follow @econsm on Twitter and look for #econsm hashtags on May 14th.
